Hello!!
I'm sure you are all so excited that puppy time is coming soon! Some of you may already have this info, so this is just to be sure that everyone has everything at their fingertips.
Departure:
I am ready do schedule your puppy departure! When you know your schedule, let me know what day/time you think is best and I'll see what I can do do accommodate that! They can leave anytime between July 13-20th. I can be available most days/times.
I prefer cash at puppy pickup. If that is absolutely not possible, I also accept Venmo or Paypal. I'm happy to take a check, but I need it a week before you pick-up so the bank can clear it before the puppies leave. If you have a different preferred method just communicate your ideas as soon as possible.
When you come to pick up your puppy we will meet on my front porch, I'll explain the important documents that are included in the go home kit, important vet documents, pedigree, and puppy info. I'll have time for any questions you have. Plan on being here for about 5-15 minutes or so.
We use ISO standard (universal/worldwide) FI Nano microchips. I will prepay all of the microchips for your hound's lifetime. My veterinarian will place the microchips in the puppies when she does an exam at 9 weeks old. Once the microchips are placed I'll register them directly to you.
Please Email/text me the following information for the microchip registration:

FEEDING:
The puppies are used to eating Kirkland Lamb and Rice. These babies have had nice solid poop and good healthy weights on this food. I do recommend keeping them on it at least until they have settled in at home, 1 full bag minimum. You can purchase it in person at Costco. I'm happy to have as many bags as you want, here waiting for you to go home with your puppy. $39 each 40lb bag currently. (Don't be shy, I have had people ask me to get 7 bags before.....)
If this is not a food you feel you can reasonably feed long term, I'm happy to provide other suggestions, but please transition them very slowly for digestive health.
Puppy food is often not recommended for giant breed puppies. I do not recommend feeding puppy food at all. Puppy food encourages quick growth and can cause problems in giant dogs. We want them to grow nice, steady, and slow. I choose this specific food because of its low protein content, ingredient list, overall food rating, and most importantly because of how the puppies have been thriving, healthy, and active on it. High protein foods are not recommended at all for giant breed puppies. This food is 24% protein.
Puppies are currently free-fed. That isn't practical for everyone, I recommend feeding 4x a day until 12 weeks, 3x a day from 12w- as long as it is reasonable. It is best if you can feed often to help prevent scarfing their food. When they go home they will be eating their food dry. However during stress you can add a bit of water to their food. It makes it smell better and increases their interest. I'll send home a feeding guide in your puppy packet, here is the same info:
2 months or 8 weeks = 2-4 cups per day - (divided into 4 meals daily)
3 months or 12 weeks = 3-5 cups per day - (divided into 3 meals daily)
4 months or 16 weeks = 4-6 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
5 months or 20 weeks = 5-7 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily
6 months or 24 weeks = 6-8 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
7 months 6-9 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
8 months 6-9 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
9 months and older 7-10 cups per day- (divided into 2 meals daily)
They do love one spoon of canned food mixed with their kibble. This is not necessary and we do it infrequently but occasionally.
In addition to their kibble we give a special something from time to time. It rotates between : fruit/veggies (potatoes-all kinds, carrot, squash, apple, banana, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, green beans, spinach) meaty bones (raw chicken legs/wings/feet at their current age going up to leg/thigh/backs by 12 weeks, beef ribs, marrow bones, any good meaty bones that are not weight bearing. --Weight bearing bones are more dense, I do not give them. They get the occasional homemade dog biscuit/milkbone and can already manage a 'large' size.
For stomach upset feed canned pumpkin puree and/or boiled carrots. Both will clean up mushy/loose poops and both will also increase fiber intake helping prevent/fix constipation. These are great to keep on hand for the times when you need them, and both are great for them to have as regular additions to their diet. If you don't often keep carrots or canned pumpkin in your home these are shelf stable and awesome!!: https://www.chewy.com/olewo-digestive-health-anti-diarrhea/dp/158593
I do give my puppies Ester C while they are in a rapid growth phase. It is a great supplement for the puppies and can help them through the rough, extra fast growth periods.
Wolfhounds are often NOT very food motivated while training. I have always had great success with Redbarn Naturals Beef Recipe Dog Food Roll . Here is a link: https://www.chewy.com/redbarn-naturals-beef-recipe-dog-food/dp/45783 (we like lamb, beef, and chicken.....) I just cut them into whatever size I want (i prefer them about the size of a pea, so they get a good taste but they don't eat enough to affect their digestion) Liver treats/dehydrated liver is also a favorite and a bit less prep/smell, a link to those: https://www.chewy.com/stewart-pro-treat-beef-liver-freeze/dp/44918 I have used/do use a combination of all of these.
A note to remember when feeding a giant breed puppy- If they are acting hungry, looking hungry, or the bowl is licked clean they probably need more. Some days they can and do eat significantly more than others.
Other things, supplies, tools
The most user friendly brush to help with shedding and adult coat maintenance is this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OPXKM7E/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_T9AGD2EMWFGDD2J01S22?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use it and an all metal comb the most.
The dog door I have is: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ideal-Pet-15-in-x-23-5-in-Ruff-Weather-Frame-with-Dual-Flaps-Dog-and-Pet-Door-RWSL/100591689 It is installed into a wall, and I have the bottom of the frame at 13" from the floor. All of our adult hounds do use it. The puppies will be using a smaller sliding glass door insert type in size medium so they can safely navigate through it.
As always, if you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to let me know!
Have a great rest of your day!~
Llynda and the hounds
P.S. I often get asked what beds my dogs and the puppies sleep on (they are in the puppies' outdoor space, you will see them soon!) You can find them here: https://www.chewy.com/kh-pet-products-elevated-dog-bed/dp/102987 (I have the 'large' size and they even hold up to my 195lb guy just fine)
Reminder---If you would like me to have a bag (or several bags) of their food ready to go home with you, please let me know before Sept 21. They are $40 for 40 lbs. I can have them here waiting or I can ship them directly to your home!
